New York Police Officer Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle

A part-time Northville police officer was killed late Monday after he was struck by a passing vehicle.

Officer Robert Johnson, a retired officer from the City of Gloversville Police Department, died as a result of a motor vehicle accident on State Highway 30 in the Town of Northampton.

Johnson was reportedly trying to help with a deer accident at the time of the collision. 

Gloversville Police Chief Marc Porter posted a message on Facebook saying in part: "We lost an excellent, decorated Police Officer, a true friend, and a dedicated father and husband. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bob and his surviving family."

An investigation is ongoing.
