Marathon Dance Fundraiser Smashes Record

An annual marathon dance in South Glens Falls has set a new record.

The 40th South High Marathon Dance raised $823,614.92 over a 28-hour period this weekend, breaking last-year’s record-setting total. Last year the event raised more than $762,000.

During the event a remembrance was held for New York State Trooper Timothy Pratt, a South Glens Falls native who was killed last year when he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to assist a motorist.

The South High Marathon Dance began in 1978 with about 50 dancers and raised about $1,500.

All the money raised is donated to charity.
