On Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo and Vice President Joe Biden unveiled a $4 billion dollar redesign of LaGuardia Airport in New York City. The new airport will eliminate the six current terminal buildings.  There will instead be one terminal with  expanded transportation and rail access, more taxiway space, state-of-the-art passenger amenities, and it will be built to withstand extreme weather events.  The comprehensive plan was based on recommendations from a seven member Airport Advisory Panel.  Among the group: Clarkson University President Tony Collins.  He explains to WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley how he and the college in far northern New York became involved in redesigning the airport in New York City.

The first half of the LaGuardia project is expected to be complete in 2019. Full construction is scheduled to be finished about 18 months later.
