Cuomo Pushes For Southern Tier Casino

Office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has written a letter to the state Gaming Commission asking to reopen bidding for a casino in the Southern Tier.

The region was not granted a casino license in the first round of awards announced earlier this month.

According to the Democrat and Chronicle, the governor says the area could benefit from economic development.

In his letter addressed Friday, the Cuomo said the license “may excite national competition by interested parties that submit even better applications than the first round.”

The push by Cuomo comes after he said he would remove himself from the casino debate.
