On news of police officer Darren Wilson’s resignation, outgoing Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick offered his thoughts on the racial tensions in Ferguson, Missouri.
On NBC’s Meet the Press, Patrick said there exists a “startling lack of understanding” between the black community and law enforcement. The Democrat also said he believes the reason why President Obama has not yet visited Ferguson is partially due to ongoing Federal investigation.
"I think also that the president is in a really, really tough place trying to be, and having been elected to serve as president of the whole country, and having higher expectations on issues related to race. And I’ve experienced that at home,” said Patrick.
The governor said he had to learn the different expectations facing a black elected official after the death of a black Boston teenager, soon after he took office nearly eight years ago.
