Goshen, NY – Governor Andrew Cuomo visited two of the many upstate New York farms that sustained heavy damage during flooding caused by two major storms in two weeks. WAMC's Dave Lucas caught up with the Governor at John Glebocki's family farm in Goshen.

The governor first toured Wallkill View Farm in the Ulster County town of New Paltz at noon Thursday. Then he headed south to neighboring Orange County, where he got a firsthand look at flood damage at J. Glebocki Farms in Goshen.

As he announced 2-point-4 million dollars in aid to 125 New York farms affected by recent storms, Cuomo spoke directly to Washington, urging Congress to act now to get New York State the money it desperately needs to help the farmers and others after the floods.

Large sections in the eastern half of upstate New York got hit by devastating floods caused by Tropical Storm Irene in late August and Tropical Storm Lee earlier this month. Farmer John Glebocki says he'd like to see the Walkill River dredged. Governor Cuomo has put the total damage estimate to New York farms at $1 billion. The federal Farm Service Agency put preliminary damage estimates for New York farms at $45 million.
