President Joe Biden on Thursday relaunched the council of governors, an advisory board of governors,  key Cabinet secretaries and top administration officials focused on strengthening federal and state collaboration on major national security issues. One of the new appointees is Vermont’s governor.
Biden appointed a bipartisan group of nine governors to the council including Vermont’s Republican Governor Phil Scott. He is the only governor appointed to the board from New England.

In a statement released Thursday Governor Scott said he “looks forward to working with (the Biden) Administration and the other governors to demonstrate that bipartisan leadership can work and help bring our deeply polarized country together to unite around our shared values and goals.”

Governors serve a two-year term on the council.
