Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has extended until May 21st restrictions that prevent non-essential travel across the U.S. and Canadian border.

Vaccinations have ramped up in Canada, but the presence of more contagious variants has led to a third wave of infections especially in Ontario.

During his Tuesday briefing Vermont Governor Phil Scott said the state is watching the situation in Canada closely.   “I don’t think it’s a good sign when Ontario and Quebec have closed the border amongst the two of them and I’m hopeful that once Canada, Quebec in particular, catches up to where we are that the border will be opened back up.”

The North Country Chamber in Plattsburgh does not expect major changes in border policy through the summer.
