The Vermont Legislature has adjourned the first of two 2020 legislative sessions. As WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley reports, lawmakers will return to Montpelier in August.

The legislature appropriated nearly $577 million of the $1.25 billion in federal Coronavirus Relief Funds provided to Vermont by the federal government before calling an end to the session late Friday night.  “The main focus of our extended session was to pass critical legislation to help get Vermonters through this crisis.”

House Speaker Democrat Mitzi Johnson says even with the break, the state will meet the federal deadline to spend all the federal funds by the end of the year.  “There’s about $140 million left and we’ll be back very quickly.”

The Legislature adjourned until August 25th.
