The city of North Adams, Massachusetts has canceled all of its summer events due to public health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Tom Bernard says the decision was difficult and that it only came when all other options were exhausted.

“The concerts at the lake, and Movies Under The Stars, the Eagle Street Beach Party and Downtown Celebration – they bring people together," Bernard told WAMC. "They’re a place we gather, we see friends, we see neighbors, we smile, we laugh, we enjoy the season.”

A celebration of North Adams’ 125th anniversary has yet to be rescheduled, but is likely to take place later in 2020 or in summer 2021.
