Vermont's maple syrup season is officially underway.
Republican Gov. Phil Scott celebrated the opening of the 2020 maple syrup season by tapping a tree at Gagne Maple in Highgate with help from children from the Highgate Elementary School.

Vermont’s maple industry has led the nation in total syrup produced for decades and over the last three seasons the industry has brought in over $50 million in revenue each year.

Statistics show that Vermont’s maple industry employs more than 4,000 people. Vermont produces nearly half of the maple syrup in the United States.
