The largest city in western Massachusetts is looking for a consultant to inventory trees to help plan for future plantings.
To combat the potential impacts of climate change, the city of Springfield is looking to plant tens of thousands of new trees in the next few decades.
Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Kathleen Theoharides announced last year an award of $315,000 for the tree inventory and to expand the tree nursery the city operates.
" Heat is certainly going to be an issue inland in urban areas like Springfield, so climate change is an issue we are addressing all across the Commonwealth," said Theoharides.
Proposals for conducting the tree inventory are due in Springfield City Hall on Tuesday Feb. 12.
