Vermont Governor Phil Scott has signed a bill that will implement lead testing in every school and licensed childcare facility in the state.
On Monday, the Republican governor signed the bill that expands a 2017 pilot that tested 900 taps.
Under the new law all schools and licensed or registered childcare facilities must test all drinking and cooking water taps for lead. If lead is detected above 4 parts per billion, remediation is required.
The 18-month project will involve testing water in nearly 425 public and independent schools and approximately 1,200 childcare facilities in Vermont.
