A new public park has opened adjacent to an inner city library branch in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The small space, constructed on what was a vacant lot, is called the Mason Square Discovery Garden.

It is a place where people can visit, even when the library is not open, to relax and reflect. It contains a neighborhood community garden where vegetables are being grown.

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week, WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Springfield City Library Director Molly Fogarty.
