The Bennington Select Board has voted to favorably recommend a small solar array.
The Select Board approved forwarding the 150-kilowatt capacity project to the state Public Utility Commission the project after more than an hour of debate. The Bennington Banner reports two members recused themselves citing possible conflicts of interest.

If the project is approved by the PUC area individuals, organizations and businesses could purchase shares of the power that the local utility would distribute at a discount.

Neighbors will have a chance to participate in the Public Utility Commission permitting process.

Some owners of adjacent properties say that the solar panels could affect property values and disrupt scenic areas.
