Democratic primary winner Andrea Harrington is declaring victory in the general election for Berkshire District Attorney.

With an unofficial tally showing her leading independent write-in candidate and incumbent DA Paul Caccaviello by around 6,000 votes, Harrington claimed victory at her election night party in Pittsfield Tuesday.

“From the very beginning of this campaign I was very clear on my message, in that Berkshire County, in the District Attorney’s office, can do so much for this community,” she told supporters.

In the position since March, Caccaviello told WAMC that he’s waiting for official tallies to come in before conceding.

“I think it’s too important a race to not have a final determination that we’re comfortable with and that the county’s comfortable with,” said the DA.

Caccaviello narrowly lost the Democratic primary to Harrington in September.
