The vice president of a regional telecommunications group says the best way to ensure net neutrality is through "a clear and predictable national standard."
Tim Wilkerson of the New England Cable and Telecommunications Association issued the statement Friday, a day after Vermont Governor Phil Scott signed an executive order to ensure that all state contracts with internet providers include net neutrality protections.

Wilkerson says the group's companies adhere to the principles of net neutrality and a national standard is better than "a disruptive patchwork of inconsistent state actions."

Among the requirements of the order signed by Scott, a Republican, are that internet service providers doing business with the state not block lawful content, impair internet traffic or give preferential treatment to some internet traffic.
