Lanesborough, Massachusetts could soon receive state approval to reconstruct the bridge over Lake Pontoosuc.

The Massachusetts Legislature has authorized the state Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance to grant a land easement to Lanesborough in order to complete reconstruction of the Narragansett Avenue causeway bridge.

In 2016, the state project was delayed when five parcels of land around the bridge were identified as protected land. State Senator Adam Hinds, a Pittsfield Democrat, says the late State Representative Gailanne Cariddi brought the issue before the legislature last year.

“And so it’s satisfying to see this move through on her behalf,” Hinds says. “This bridge has been vital for law enforcement and emergency vehicles and just popular for folks who are fishing.”

Governor Charlie Baker has until November 25th to review and act on the bill.
