Governor Phil Scott has hired the Republican minority leader in the state Senate to work on expanding Vermont's workforce.
Senator Dustin Degree will leave his legislative post to become special assistant to the governor and executive director of workforce expansion. The Burlington Free Press reports the Republican governor will appoint a new senator to serve the final year of Degree's term.

The governor's office said Wednesday the change will take effect this week, and Senate Republicans will need to choose a new minority leader.

Former Democratic state representative, Sarah Buxton, has been appointed to tackle workforce issues at the Vermont Department of Labor as director of workforce policy and performance.
