Feds Drop Refugee Resettlement Plan In Pittsfield

The U.S. State Department is ending a plan that could have resettled refugees in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. 

Jewish Family Service of Western Massachusetts was charged with resettling 50 Iraqi and Syrian refugees in Pittsfield – but the U.S. State Department rescinded the plan.

President Donald Trump’s decision to reduce the number of refugees into the country to 50,000 made the Jewish Family Service’s program unfeasible, the group says.

Pittsfield residents packed community meetings about the Jewish Family Service’s resettlement plans.

The number of refugees allowed into the U.S. could drop even further when the next fiscal year starts October 1^st.
