Massachusetts isn’t holding a sales tax-free weekend this year, but that’s not stopping retailers in Lenox from trying to lure back-to-school shoppers.

The Lenox Chamber of Commerce says many retail stores will be offering a discount equal to the state’s sales tax of 6.25 percent Saturday and Sunday.

The Chamber says both business owners and customers prosper from the tax holiday, even if it’s just once a year.

Governor Charlie Baker and lawmakers filed several sales tax holiday bills, but none made it through the legislature for the second straight year. It was held from 2009 to 2015.

Opponents say the state can’t afford to lose an estimated $25 million in sales tax revenues.

Retailers in Pittsfield, Great Barrington, Lee and North Adams plan to offer discounts as well.
