The state's top elections official says the Nov. 8 election brought a record turnout in Massachusetts.

Roughly 30 percent of voters cast their ballots early, exceeding expectations for Massachusetts’ first early voting period.

Secretary of State William Galvin says slightly more than 3.4 million votes were cast overall.

Democrat Hillary Clinton received nearly twice as many votes in the Bay State as Republican president-elect Donald Trump.

Galvin says votes cast for presidential electors will be sent to the Governor's Council for certification later this week.

The Electoral College members will cast their official votes on Dec. 19.
