The mayor of Rutland, Vermont, says he's confident that the city will win federal approval to host Syrian refugees, despite the city board of aldermen's misgivings.
The aldermen sent a letter to the U.S. State Department this week saying a significant part of the community has grown anxious about the refugee resettlement program and that the board cannot support the proposal due to a lack of information to address concerns.
The board also voted against taking a citywide vote on the issue.
Alderman Tom DePoy says he doesn't think the city has the infrastructure nor the ability to take on the refugees.
Mayor Christopher Louras says he's continuing to put together local infrastructure and resources to make sure the refugee resettlement is a success.
