A group of Vermont's legal, business and state officials has a plan to help the state's economy while helping to lead the nation in the on-going effort to fight climate change.
The Vermont Climate Change Economy Council was created last year by the Vermont Council on Rural Development. Its plan, released Tuesday at the Statehouse in Montpelier, calls for looking for ways to create jobs linked to adapting, mitigating, and reversing the effects of climate change.
One recommendation was to urge the Vermont Legislature to consider a carbon tax that would charge people more for using carbon-based energy, but the panel is divided on the proposal.
The ideas will be discussed at an energy summit scheduled later this month in Randolph.
