A suspect in the shooting death of a New York man outside a bar on Church Street in Burlington, Vermont has pleaded not guilty to murder.
Twenty-four-year-old Chavis Murphy was arraigned Monday in the Dec. 27 death of Obafemi Adedapo in Burlington.

Murphy is being held without bail pending a Jan. 14 hearing.

Court papers say Adedapo was shot after a dispute at the Zen Lounge over a woman.
Police say Adedapo had been arrested 20 times in New York City on charges including robbery and assault. He was known to police there as a member of the Cashford Crips, a gang operating out of Brooklyn.

Murphy was arrested last week in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Burlington Free Press reports court papers show he has convictions for misdemeanor simple assault and careless and negligent driving.
