Google executive and former Vermont lawmaker Matt Dunne is running for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2016.

The 45-year-old Hartland resident issued a statement Wednesday saying Vermont is at a critical juncture and that Vermonters want a fresh approach. He had been expected to run.

He says he raised more than $200,000 for the run before making the official announcement.

Dunne will continue with a series of community forums around the state that has already begun, and will hold a formal campaign kickoff later in the fall.

Dunne lost in a five-way race for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 2010.

Democratic House Speaker Shap Smith announced last month he'd run for governor and retired Wall Street executive Bruce Lisman entered the race on the Republican side on Tuesday.
