A veteran with the New York City Police Department is set to become Burlington Vermont’s new police chief.

Mayor Miro Weinberger announced Tuesday that Brandon del Pozo, who has served 18 years with the NYPD in a number of command-level positions, is his and the search committee’s choice to to replace retired Chief Michael Schirling.  “I am confident that Brandon del Pozo is the right leader for the Burlington Police Department for our time.”

del Pozo’s  appointment must be approved by the city council at their July 13th meeting.

If approved, he will become chief in September, taking over from Acting Chief Jannine Wright.
