A company is withdrawing its plans for a 20-turbine industrial wind project on Vermont's Seneca Mountain in the Northeast Kingdom.

Eolian Renewables of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, has informed ISO New England that it was withdrawing its interconnection request for the project it had planned for the mountain in the unincorporated town of Ferdinand.

Last fall Eolian polled several hundred landowners in the five unincorporated towns of the Unified Towns and Gores, including Ferdinand, to see if they favored the project. When the ballots were counted in January, the landowners, many of whom lived outside the region, opposed the project.

Some property owners had complained that building wind turbines on a mountain overlooking the community of Island Pond would spoil the character of the area without providing environmental benefits.
