Top state officials and representatives of a teachers' union say they've come up with a plan to ensure the financial security of the Vermont State Teachers' Retirement System.
In a deal announced Friday, Governor Peter Shumlin, State Treasurer Beth Pearce, legislative leaders and the head of the Vermont chapter of the National Education Association unveiled a plan to pay for retired teachers' health benefits.
The proposal would utilize a variety of sources to address the lack of funding for teacher health care.
