Protesters are calling on Vermont's congressional delegation to vote no on the use of U.S. military force against Syria.

About 45 demonstrators visited the Burlington offices of Sens. Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders and Rep. Peter Welch Thursday.

Leahy was not at the office so the group met with one of his aides.

The Burlington Free Press reports Sanders told the protesters he has grave concerns about any American intervention, but would not say if he would oppose it.

Congress is expected to vote in the next week whether to support military action after the Obama administration blamed President Bashir Assad for a chemical weapons attack that it says killed more than 1,400 civilians, including at least 400 children. Other casualty estimates are lower, and the Syrian government denies responsibility.
