Three Vermont counties have received federal disaster declarations in the wake of severe storms in May.

Governor Peter Shumlin requested the declaration from the federal government for Chittenden, Essex and Lamoille counties to deal with public infrastructure damage following a Memorial Day weekend storm.

More than a million and a half dollars in damages qualify communities in those counties to receive at least 75% federal reimbursement to repair public roads, bridges and other infrastructure damaged during the storm.

Several roads were completely washed out while others became impassible from heavy rain and high waters.
