The head of the Vermont Democratic Party is stepping down.

Chairman Jake Perkinson announced his resignation on Tuesday night.

Vice chairwoman Dottie Deans will serve as interim chair until the party reorganization elections in November.

Perkinson, who officially resigns on Saturday, says the party is stronger than ever and because of that now is an opportune time for him to step down.
