Albany, NY – Listener Robert Worsfold writes in with this question: "We have a large farm in Kinderhook, Columbia County, surrounded by much more open land and woods. Over the years, we have seen most area animals including a bobcat. About five years ago I kicked up a fisher while driving a tractor through a thicket Recently, another scuttled off through the brush in the very same spot Do (fishers) live long enough that it could be the same one or might it be an offspring in the same territory?"

Former New York State wildlife pathologist Ward Stone is familiar with the animal; here he begins by describing what exactly a fisher is.
