Karin Lazarus was a single mother who was looking to find a way to feed her family and was inspired by the TV series Weeds. After winning seed money in a national baking contest, she started her own bakery. Now, she owns a popular medicinal marijuana bakery called Sweet Mary Jane in Boulder, Colorado. And she’s the author of Sweet Mary Jane Cookbook: 75 Delicious Cannabis-Infused High-End Desserts, which is considered the first coffee table medical marijuana baking book published by a major publishing house. I asked Lazarus how her cookbook came about.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and we bring you the story of a teenager who came forward about abuse. As a child, Ivy Jacobsen spent a lot of time with her father. He taught her how to cook, clean, ski, snowboard, and play her favorite sport, basketball. However, all of this togetherness masked a secret which haunted Ivy for years, a secret she decided to divulge. RadioActive’s Noel Gasca has more.

We’ll end the show with a harkening back to a Halloween classic. I have to admit, in my youth, though a great admirer of anything Peanuts, I sometimes dismissed Charlie Brown’s little sister Sally when I was very young. I was not a fan of ranting. However, as I grew older, I began to appreciate her wanting her fair share and disgust at anyone keeping her from what she thinks she deserves, like Linus, in the Halloween special, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”
I hope you are not cheated out of tricks or treats. Perhaps Sally grew up to be a lawyer or took an entirely different, though I suspect egalitarian turn in life.
