Just a few weeks after announcing he won’t run for Congress again, former representative Anthony Brindisi has his sights set on judicial office. Brindisi stood in front of the Oneida County courthouse in Utica Monday where he may sit if he wins election for the 5th judicial district seat. That encompasses Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Lewis, Herkimer and Jefferson Counties.
Brindisi lost re-election in New York’s 22nd Congressional District last year and the Democrat says he’d been ruling out another run for a little while now.
"I knew for some time I wasn't going to be seeking a seat back in Congress and when this opportunity presented itself, I thought it was a good way to be able to take my experiences and put them back to work for the people of the community," he said.
The seat he’s running for was just added by the state legislature earlier this year. Supreme Court justices sit for 14-year terms. Voters in the 5th judicial district will cast ballots on the judgeship later this year.
Brindisi, a former state Assemblyman, has been in private practice since losing to Republican Claudia Tenney last year.
