Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins is a finalist for the position of police chief of Akron, Ohio, according to a published report.
The Akron Beacon-Journal saysHawkins is one of four finalists for the job, along with officials from departments in Philadelphia, Oregon and Washington state.
The report says the finalists made it through a first interview with the mayor. A virtual public town hall is set for June 17. Hawkins was officially hired as Albany Police Chief in August 2018. The former Southfield, Michigan Police Chief began with a $145,000 annual salary.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, a Democrat running for a third term, released a statement Tuesday afternoon:
“It’s not surprising to me that a member of my leadership team is being sought out by another agency. I have the best team in the business and they receive job inquiries and offers all the time.”
