Demonstrators Gather In Albany After Race Called For Biden

Outside the New York State Capitol in Albany demonstrators appeared Saturday after the presidential race was called for Joe Biden.

Brittany Cross, a Biden supporter, was holding up a t-shirt that read “stand against racism.”

Cross told WAMC how she felt about the news of Biden’s election.

“Overwhelmed…Excited as well. Just hoping for a brighter future and for the country to come together and be united,” said Cross.

Steps away, a crowd gathered in support of President Trump.

Trump supporter Jeff Mix said he believed the Republican was the first politician he knew that would keep his promises.

“I wanted to him to know that people do care and appreciate the work he did for four years.”

New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo called the Biden/Harris victory an historic day, saying:

“After the darkness, division and hate of the past four years, America has spoken and rejected more of the same.”

Republican Governor Phil Scott of Vermont, who voted for Biden, also congratulated Senator Kamala Harris as the first woman and first person of color to be elected Vice President.

Scott added the polarization in America is “preventing us from addressing our greatest challenges and strengthening adversaries who want to dim the bright light of liberty and economic opportunity that America represents in the world. “
