Several political leaders from across the region have emailed statements against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's lewd remarks revealed in a 2005 exchange with TV personality Billy Bush.
Vermont Republican Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott:
“Nearly a year ago, long before he was the nominee, I said I would not vote for Mr. Trump because of the laundry list of offensive insults he had already made about people with disabilities, prisoners of war, minorities and women. These revolting remarks reaffirm my decision not to support him."
Vermont House Minority Leader Don Turner:
"As a husband and the father of three daughters, his comments were indefensible, offensive, and inexcusable. This wasn't "boys being boys" or harmless locker room banter. His statements were abusive. At this time, I am withdrawing my support for Mr Trump."
Democratic New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie:
"Whether they were made yesterday or a decade ago, these vile remarks extolling the sexual assault of women are inexcusable. We need a leader who embraces diversity and wants to lift up all Americans. We must protect our country from a man who celebrates intolerance and promotes violence."
Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, on NY1:
"I think it was disgusting on a basic human level. And I think the Republican politicians in this state have to condemn the activity, condemn the verbiage – silence is acceptance and no New Yorker should accept what was said here."
New York GOP chair Ed Cox is among officials blasting Trump's remarks but continuing to support the Republican nominee.
