Candidates in Connecticut are spending the final days before the primary making sure the few voters willing to cast ballots in a summertime election will show up at the polls.

Voter turnout for Tuesday's primary is expected to be around 30 percent. That's prompted the campaigns to target registered Republicans and Democrats with a history of voting.

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill says there has been an influx of new voters, with 12,000 signing up in the past month.

Across the state, registered Republicans will be eligible to cast votes in at least five primaries, depending on where they live. For Democrats, they can vote in at least 18 primaries.

There are Democratic and Republican primaries for the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives and the General Assembly.
