Pittsfield, MA –
The protest will be a very organized first encampment for Occupy Berkshires. The occupiers will take the stage from 12 pm Saturday to 12 pm Sunday.
Organizer Ritchie Wilson explains that the goal of the protest is to get their voices and message heard in a non confrontational way as possible.
Bill Shien, a member of Occupy Berkshires' direct action working group met with the Police Department, Fire Department, and Town Manager on Tuesday to discuss Occupy Berkshires goals for the weekends and any safety or regulatory concerns.
Town Manager Kevin O'Donnel also thinks the meeting went well.
At the meeting, Great Barrington Fire Chief Harry Jennings explained to Occupy Berkshires some safety concerns.
Because the protesters will not be able to use propane heaters or stoves to cook food, local businesses will be keeping campers warm and fed.
Sean Stanton, Chairman of the Great Barrington Board of Selectman hopes that the weather will cooperate for the protesters and is glad to see the support from local business.
The over-night demonstration from Occupy Berkshires will feature organized events, guest speakers, music, movies, and of course plenty of time to get the message out. Reporting from WAMC's Berkshire Bureau at the Berkshire Eagle, I'm Lucas Willard.
