Bennington, VT – Teachers in the Southwest Vermont Education Association plan to vote on a contract following a nine-day strike. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more...
The Bennington Banner reports that Union President Stephannie Peters said the more than 310 teachers plan to gather at 4 p.m. Thursday to consider the agreement. She expects the group to ratify it by a wide margin.
Teachers returned to the classroom last week after voting on October 31 to accept a preliminary agreement. The boards that negotiated the deal will meet on November 17 to vote on a final contract.
The Bennington teachers went on strike October 19. The issues that had separated the two sides were salaries, health care benefits and time spent with students.
