Vermont Panel Suggests New 150-Member Lawmaker Map
Montpelier, VT – A panel charged by the Vermont Legislature with redrawing the state's representative districts wants to create 150 single-member House districts.
Thursday's 4-3 vote of the Legislative Apportionment Board would be for a starting point for discussions with local election officials.
The review of the districts is required every 10 years after new U.S. census figures become available. The target population for a single-member House district for the coming decade is 4,172 people. Currently, a number of districts have multiple representatives.
The Burlington Free Press says that after the board finalizes the boundaries of its House map, it will then ask for comments from town boards of civil authority by Aug. 1. A final House redistricting map must be done by Aug. 15.
Senate boundaries will also be redrawn.
