Vox Pop : Predictions for 2012 with Alan Chartock: 12/27/11
Albany, NY – The New Year is upon us, and just as Y2K gripped the nation at the turn of the new millennium, much has been said about the impending danger of this upcoming annum. If the prediction of the Mayans proves correct, by this time next year we won't have to worry about the national economic recovery, terrorism at home or abroad, or the results of next year's election. According to the Mayan calendar the world is scheduled to end on December 21, 2012.
The end of days notwithstanding, 2012 is shaping up to be an important year for politics across our listening area and across the country. In New York, Democrats attempting to ride the wave of Governor Andrew Cuomo's soaring popularity back into the majority in the state senate will have to prove they can work for the people of the state while avoiding ethical pitfalls, and potential indictments, throughout next year's session.
And of course the presidential race; with the Iowa caucuses just a week away and primaries in New Hampshire and South Carolina also slated for January, the GOP field will surely tighten up, leading to an eventual victor who shall square off with President Obama.
Will Obama win re-election? Can Democrats in New York re-take the Senate? We want your predictions for 2012 on this edition of Vox Pop, as WAMC's Alan Chartock joins host Ray Graf to share his predictions.
