Jon Wertheim has made a career out of looking for a good sports story, but when he recalled the summer of 1984, he found several crammed into one summer. Wertheim’s new book is “Glory Days: The Summer of 1984 and the 90 Days That Changed Sports and Culture Forever.”

The book traces the intersection of sports and media at a time when its then 13-year-old author had no problem seeing a rising basketball talent named Michael Jordan around town.

Wertheim, the executive editor of Sports Illustrated, is also a correspondent for 60 Minutes and an analyst for the Tennis Channel.

A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Ian joined WAMC in late 2008 and became news director in 2013. He began working on Morning Edition and has produced The Capitol Connection, Congressional Corner, and several other WAMC programs. Ian can also be heard as the host of the WAMC News Podcast and on The Roundtable and various newscasts. Ian holds a BA in English and journalism and an MA in English, both from the University at Albany, where he has taught journalism since 2013.
