The makeup of the Albany County Legislature is taking shape after Tuesday’s primaries.

2020 will bring with it a new U.S. Census — and the redrawing of legislative districts. Albany Democrat Wanda Willingham is deputy chair of the County Legislative Black Caucus and represents District 3 on the county legislature. She spoke with WAMC's Capital Region Bureau Chief Dave Lucas about the challenge of redistricting the city.

In September, word came that the Department of Motor Vehicles would be moving out of downtown Albany, setting off debate about the South End neighborhood. The official announcement came this week.

In September, word came that the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles on South Pearl Street was moving out of downtown Albany, forced to vacate the county-owned building by October 31st to make way for county agencies, including the Board of Elections. But,  nearly a week into November, the DMV is still open for business.

Elected officials and civic leaders appear to be at an impasse over controversial remarks by Albany County Board of Elections officials about the city’s South End community.

The city of Albany is grappling with a spike in violent crime, leading to an emotional response from the mayor, who is coming in for criticism from the police union.

Today was the 100th anniversary of distinguished war veteran Henry Johnson's heroics in battle in France. WAMC's Capital Region Bureau Chief Dave Lucas was in Albany’s Washington Park as officials remembered the native Medal of Honor winner.
