April was both Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Alcohol Awareness Month. And May is Mental Health Awareness Month. These very serious issues are often tragically intertwined, and are the focus of many college campus support programs and initiatives.


In the studio today for Medical Monday is Dr. Ira Zackon and Dr. Courtney Bellomo of New York Oncology Hematology. Both are board-certified in the field, and specialize in stem cell transplantation.

The New York State Assembly passed a bill yesterday that would allow local officials in Long Island and New York City to operate speed cameras in school zones during school hours. The city is already using some, and they’ve racked up over $600,000 in fines.

Over the last few years, states in the Northeast region have tossed the dice on allowing for the development of Las Vegas-style casinos. Last week MGM asked for a delay in awarding the formal western Massachusetts casino license. This week, the owners of the Saratoga casino and raceway dropped their plans to bring Las Vegas-style gambling to Saratoga Springs.

A Federal grand jury is expected to consider the fatal shooting of three people outside Jewish community facilities in Kansas this past weekend as a hate crime. The victims were not Jewish, but the shooter, 73-year-old Frazier Glenn Miller, is a known anti-Semite and white supremacist.
