Earlier this month, the New York State Department of Environmental Consevation announced remediation work would begin at the Saint-Gobain facility on McCaffrey Street in Hoosick Falls. The Superfund site is at the center of the PFOA water contamination issue affecting village water supplies. PFOA has been linked to ill health effects including cancer.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer was in East Greenbush Wednesday to announce that the Environmental Protection Agency intends to set a Maximum Contaminant Level for PFOA/PFOS chemicals.

The State of Vermont and Saint-Gobain have reached a tentative agreement to extend clean, municipal water to homes and businesses affected by PFOA contamination in Bennington. WAMC’s Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard reports the deal would affect customers on the east side of town.

The state of Vermont is asking a court to approve a settlement it reached with a company over contamination of some private water wells with the chemical PFOA.

Announced Tuesday and filed in state court on Wednesday, Vermont has reached a settlement agreement with company Saint-Gobain to address PFOA contamination in the Bennington area. The agreement will extend clean water lines to approximately 200 homes in the region. Officials were in Bennington to provide details Wednesday night.

The Rensselaer County village of Hoosick Falls is considering a new draft of a proposed settlement between the companies deemed responsible for polluting local water supplies and village government. The Thursday evening meeting comes after a previous settlement agreement was tabled amid widespread opposition in January.

Some Hoosick Falls residents already exposed to chemicals in their drinking water may also have another form of pollutant leaking into their homes. Honeywell, under a consent order with the state, is conducting an investigation into the detection of chemicals at one of its former buildings in town. A meeting was held Tuesday night where company representatives spoke to residents.

The town of Bennington Vermont is planning a construction project that will connect some customers with wells contaminated by chemicals to town water.

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has identified more than 40 companies in addition to Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics that likely used a water-contaminating compound in their products.

The company that last owned the now-closed ChemFab plant in southwestern Vermont is providing bottled water for anyone affected by contaminated water from the facility.

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics in Hoosick Falls says it is working with local, state, and federal officials after the chemical PFOA was found in several wells in nearby North Bennington, Vermont.

The Environmental Protection Agency has warned residents of Hoosick Falls not to drink the water. The village is home to decades-old manufacturing facilities now owned by Saint-Gobain.
