     With summer approaching, multi-million dollar upgrades have been finished at two parks in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts.

    Money has been raised for a permanent 9/11 monument in Springfield, Massachusetts.

    After eight months, Springfield’s September 11th Monument Fundraising Committee completed its work.

    "We are over the finish line and we've exceeded our goal of $300,000," announced Frank Colaccino, the Springfield businessman who chaired the committee.

     He said he was always confident the $300,000 goal would be reached.

   Springfield, Massachusetts joined communities large and small across the country today that held ceremonies to mark the 17th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.  By next year, the city will have a permanent 9-11 monument installed.

Inside a workshop in the Northampton village of Florence, Massachusetts craftspeople are working to create a 9/11 memorial using a 3,000-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center.  What promises to be unique among the nation’s many 9/11 tributes will be permanently located in Springfield.

    The show will go on. But, for the first time in more than 25 years, fireworks will not be launched over the Connecticut River on the Fourth of July in downtown Springfield.
