The race to replace retiring Colonie Town Supervisor Paula Mahan is taking shape. The town Republican Party says Peter Crummey will step down as town justice to run. The Democrats are backing Kelly Mateja to replace Mahan, a Democrat who has served as supervisor in the Albany County town since 2008. Mahan won re-election by about 100 votes in 2019.

The Colonie Democratic Committee has endorsed a candidate in the race to replace retiring Town Supervisor Paula Mahan. Kelly Mateja, a political newcomer, is hoping to keep the supervisor’s office in Democratic hands. Mahan has served as supervisor of the Albany County town since 2008.

Local officials gathered Thursday at a public showing of the new "Streetscape" at the Town of Colonie's Municipal Training Center in Latham.

Taxpayers in the town of Colonie would see a 1.9 percent hike in their tax bills under an $88.9 million budget proposed by Supervisor Paula Mahan. Mahan spoke with WAMC’s Capital Region Bureau Chief Dave Lucas about her spending plan, under which the tax rate would increase 4.6 cents per thousand of assessed value, rendering a net tax increase for the average taxpayer of approximately $6.50.
