Equinor is an international energy company based in Norway focused on developing wind and solar power. Now, the company is looking to locate America’s first offshore wind tower manufacturing facility at the Port of Albany.

Dozens of community and environmental advocates are calling on New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to preserve climate and clean energy funding, despite COVID-19 related financial woes. This comes during Climate Week, during which the governor has unveiled a number of projects and initiatives.

The New York Power Authority and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority on Wednesday unveiled the first of 100 planned installations they’re partnering on to charge electric vehicles statewide.  It's part of a larger effort that seeks to encourage more electric vehicles and the infrastructure to support them.

Eleven companies have been awarded a total of $1.9 million in funding to explore new technologies to increase energy efficiency in New York State buildings while helping to grow business in the building construction sector.

This week, the Cuomo administration announced $4.3 million in grants for projects that would reduce the environmental impact of transportation in New York.

The 17 awards, administered through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority – or NYSERDA – are focused on technologies that would reduce dependence on fossil fuels, cut down on pollution, and promote healthier lifestyles.

Spokeswoman Kate Muller said NYSERDA’s focus on technology is an aspect of reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.

The New York Executive Clean Energy Leadership Insitute- or NY EXCEL - is a new program launched by Skidmore College focused on training business professionals in the Empire State about renewable energy and the opportunities surrounding clean energy investment.

The college will partner with the Syracuse Center of Excellence, Brookhaven National Laboratory, the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium, and the Pace Energy and Climate Center.

Albany County's new Waste Heat/Co-generation facility in Menands will not only save money by creating renewable energy, it will also cut CO2 emissions by nearly 1,500 tons per year and will reuse 50,000 gallons of water per day to cool the high-efficiency system.  Albany County Executive Dan McCoy says the co-gen project has long been in the works.

The facility is designed to provide long-term environmental and economic benefits to the Albany County Sewer District's eight member communities, which serve a population of 200,000.
